QuIX is an Acronym for Several Things

In the summer of 2002, I got an always-on connection to the Internet as part of building websites for the QuayCounty Maternal, Child, and Community Health Council and I took the opportunity to get my own internet domain name - quix.us . My original thought was that it was short for "Quay Information eXchange", analogous to the other services of the past that ended with an IX for Information eXchange. Over the years, I fooled with what each letter meant, such as Quasi-Indefatigable Xenolith or Qualitative Idiosyncratic Xenodochium. I suppose I still do this in relation to the name these days!

Here is the breakdown of the current rendition:

  • QuayLand - This comes from the name of the New Mexico county (expanded to the regional invention of QuayLand), named in honor of MatthewQuay, an early 20th century US Senator that pushed for TheAmericanStateOfNewMexico statehood.
  • Interchange - "the action of interchanging things, especially information." - Google
  • Xenagogy - "A guidebook for tourists or visitors." - Wiktionary
